HISTORY OF THE FACULTY OF MARITIME-TRANSPORT

Maritime-transportation faculty of Akaki Tsereteli State University is functioning in Poti.
Poti is one of the essential port town of Georgia, which makes great contribution to the development of the economy of our country. There are plenty of transporting, transiting, expeditionary, Maritime agency company and containing terminals in the town apart from the main port. Accordingly, there are many applications and requests for high qualified specialists of transporting, logistic and management profiles.
Because of these requests, absent learning of Kutaisi poly-technical institute opened a branch institute in Poti in 1992 with the initiation and help of the professor A. Kostava, the rector of Kutaisi poly-technical institute and V. Gegidze, the director of Poti Maritime and trading port. In 1994, a course of requiring attendance was added to this branch and it was remade as Kutaisi Technical university’s learning and scientific institute of Poti.  
On the basis of the resolution made by Poti Mayor’s Office in January 30, 1997 (N 1/02 30.01.1997) the institute was registered as Kutaisi Technical university’s learning and scientific institute of Poti.
According to the resolution N 39 of February 23, 2006 made by Georgian government, juridical individual of public law – Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University and Kutaisi N. Muskhelishvili State Technical University were united by the process of reorganization. The educational institution was given a status of university and was named as Akaki Tsereteli State University. Poti Engineering-Economical institute was given a status of the branch of Akaki Tsereteli State University.
In September 20, 2007, on the basis of the resolution/order of the rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University, Poti Engineering-Economical institute was given a name of Maritime and Transportation Faculty of Akaki Tsereteli State University.
In order to have education appropriate to modern standards and education oriented on future challenges Bachelor’s program of Maritime transportation management is carried out on the faculty since 2009; professional educational program of low business – since 2011.
Staff and invited professors of academic and practical experience and high qualification leads the learning process.  
Together with the theoretical and practical teaching courses, students of this faculty take learning and producing practice in Poti, at firms and companies of transportation which are equipped with modern technological devices.
Graduates of the faculty are employed at public institutions of the regions of Georgia; employment resources also include the following: Poti self-governing organizations, in ports, banks and credit organizations, transporting and transiting companies, revenue services, economic zones etc.
