The Department of Social Sciences was established in 2011 by the union of the Chairs of Journalism, Political Studies and International Relations Research Center. Since 2012, the Department has been implementing the Bachelor's program in “Social Sciences” (with modules in Mass Communications (Journalism), International Relations and Public Relations) and Master's programs in “Journalism” and “Public Governance”, as well as minor programs: "Journalism"; "Political Sciences" and "International Relations".
Journalistic Direction
Student intake to the Specialty of “Journalism” started in 1991, which was academically provided by the Chair of Journalism, established in 2006 as a Department of Journalism, and in 2011, Journalism entered into the Department of Social Sciences as a direction. Today, there is a media laboratory at the department equipped with modern techniques, operating for the students of the Bachelor's program in “Social Sciences” with a module in “Journalism” and Master's programs in “Journalism”.
Politology
The Chair of Politology was established in 1992 at the Faculty of History. In 2006, it joined the Department of "World History and International Relations", and in 2011 - "Social Sciences" Department and is currently providing academic support for the development of the Bachelor's program in “Social Sciences” with a module in “Public Governance” and Master's program in “Public Governance” and additional (minor) program in “Political Sciences”.
International Relations
Training-Scientific Institute of International Relations was established in 1995, which carried out the training program of "International Relations". Since 2005, it has been named Scientific-Research Institute. In 2006, the Department of "World History and International Relations" was created. Since 2011, it has been a structural unit/direction of the Department of Social Sciences and is currently providing academic support for the development of the Bachelor's program in “Social Sciences” with a module in “International Relations” and Master's program in “Public Governance” and additional (minor) program in “International Relations”.
Head of the Department is Associate Professor Tamaz Gogberashvili.
