The Summer School “Development of Sustainable Tourism in the country” was successfully launched in Akaki Tsereteli State University by the Department of Strategic Relations and the Agrarian Faculty. It was based on the Norwegian project: ,,Sustainable Tourism: village industry and cultural heritage.Cooperation in the field of education among Georgia, Norway and Kyrgystan”. Participating students represent the universities of Norway, Kyrgystan and Georgia.
The project coordinator Anne Gry Sturod was the first to open the meeting with summer school participants. The rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University, professor Giorgi Ghavtadze and the dean of Agrarian Faculty,professor Ketevan Kintsurashvili welcomed the participants and wished them success.
The goal of Summer School is to promote internationalization, increase student involvement in projects and expose foreign experience to students in connection with the field of tourism. The participating students and academics of the Summer School are from the following universities: Akaki Tsereteli State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, The University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), partner universities of Kyrgyzstan and Batumi State Meritime Academy.
Several speeches were presented in the Summer School in relation with tourism, June 24-25 by assoc. Professors Izolda Khasaia, Eliso Gvelesiani and some professors from USN. Presentations included student team projects connecting the issue of sustainable development tourism in villages.
The Tourism potential of Imereti region was introduced to the participants of the Summer School. They also paid visit to one of the successful tourist businesses in the village Ternali.
